About

LL, LLC is a jewelry brand founded in 2017 by interdisciplinary artist and designer Lia Lowenthal. LL, LLC’s signature use of the spiral motif nods to the anxiety and pleasure of creative exploration. Lowenthal builds her vocabulary upon the process of making jewelry, using coiling repetition and mixing metals to create visual and physical tension on the body.

Lowenthal gained her knowledge of jewelry from both her sculptural background and working closely with the historic Taller William Spratling in Taxco, Mexico, widely considered to be one of the most influential and intriguing silver jewelry designers of the twentieth century.

Today, LL, LLC is produced in the historic Diamond District in New York City and in-house at her Bronx-based studio.

Working actively between the art and fashion realms, Lowenthal’s artistic practice explores how social histories become reproduced through formal and functional qualities of objects, by re-imagining their use, materiality, and form. She has exhibited at Socrates Sculpture Park (New York), Richard Telles Fine Art (Los Angeles), Swiss Institute (New York), among others. Her work has been written about in publications such as Vogue, The New York Times, The New Yorker, Architectural Digest. She currently teaches in the MFA Fashion Design department at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
